Oscar Hawthorne has spent over 30 years working in education in Illinois, holding roles that include teacher, principal, and district leader. As Deputy Superintendent of North Chicago School District 187 for seven years, he led school improvement, leadership development, and district operations while overseeing six principals from PreK to 12th grade. Previously, he served as principal at Streamwood High School, Evanston Township High School, and Proviso West High School.

Growing up in Flint, Michigan, Mr. Hawthorne was influenced by his mother, a teacher, and his father, who worked in the auto industry. He learned early on that education opens doors in life, a lesson that still guides his work today. He focuses on leadership mentoring, hiring administrators, supporting parents, and mentoring young men.

Mr. Hawthorne holds a B.A. in Social Studies Education from Kentucky State University, an M.A. in Educational Administration from Governors State University, an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from Northern Illinois University, and an Organizational Leadership in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion certificate from Rice University. He served on the Board of Directors for the North Chicago Public Education Foundation and continues to volunteer with community programs for the elderly and unhoused.

Mr. Hawthorne is married and has two adult children. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, traveling, and spending time with animals and nature.
